I Don't Meet Mr. Darcy // UK, Part 1

Waking up at 5am is not on my list of favorite things.

That being said, two Saturdays ago I had to wake up at that unearthly hour of the morning, and I didn't mind at all. I was way too excited to mind.

My Level of Excitement Regarding My Trip to England:
- About as excited as Mrs. Bennet was when she discovered that Mr. Bennet had indeed written to Mr. Bingley.
- More excited than Pippin was when he discovered that it came in pints.
- Not quite as excited as the Ninth Doctor was when he realized that just this once, everybody lives.

So: we got up, drove to the port in Dublin, and got on a ferry.

I thought this was our ferry, so I took a bunch of pics, but it turned out this wasn't even the right one...

After only about 2 hours, we reached the port at Holyhead, Wales, and began our looooong car trip to the cottage (located about 50 miles from London) we'd be staying at for the week. Long car trips are hard, but we did take quite a nice detour: it was a place called Chatsworth House. A.K.A, Mr. Darcy's home, Pemberley, from the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and BBC's Death Comes to Pemberley.

I guess it was a kind of nice house.

Myself, my mom, and my sister, Heather.

I was considering just staying there forever, but I decided that there was probably more things to see in England first.

After that, we kept driving until we finally reached our cute little cottage in a place called Streatley. Emphasis on cute. The village was cute. The cottage was cute. This hill was...cute.

totes cute hill

And that ended our first day! I'm really excited to share more about the trip. It was probably one of the best weeks I've ever had.

Also, please tell me: Who is your favorite Mr. Darcy? Colin Firth? Matthew MacFadyen? Mine is Colin Firth...but I think we all know who the real Mr. Darcy is.

Til' next time! (And I know. I can't stop watching that gif either.)

Love,
Hannah

That looks amazing... oh my gosh.. Did you get to go inside? Do they do tours inside or something? DID YOU SEE MR. DARCY?!?! xD For me it would be Matthew MacFadyen because I just love everything about P&P 05'. But Colin Firth did an amazing job too. So I love them both.

    1. I KNOW ISN'T IT CRAZY?!? Well, we unfortunately did not get to go inside! The prizes were cray-crazy and we didn't have very much time. But the outside was spectacular! So many statues and fountains and gardens. And you're right - both are great.

  5. Oh my goodness, I know I'm echoing everyone else here but...I'm so jealous! :) England is the number one place I'd love to visit. Everything looks so green and gorgeous in your pictures, it's hard to believe that it's even real! (Though, from what I've heard, Ireland is equally green and gorgeous. :)

Matthew Macfadyen is by far *the* Mr. Darcy to me. The 2005 P&P is my favorite movie ever, and I'd love to visit Chatsworth House someday. (Actually, I have a list of houses and other Austen-related places I want to visit, ha.) It is rather unfortunate that you didn't get to meet Mr. Darcy while you were there, but oh well...you know, these great men are never at home. :)

  7. I tooootally left you a comment this morning, but I think my phone ate it. Stupid phone wrecking my fangirling moments. This is the second time in, like, three days that it has prevented me from freaking out at you.
    *cough* WITH you. Of course.

but EXCUSE ME. WHAT EVEN IS YOUR LIFE. Why can't I live in Ireland and go visit MR. DARCY WHATWHATWHAT
    Pemberly is beautifuuuuullllll
I would totally have pretended I was Lizzie the whole time, and been all "And is the gentleman of the house *gulp* at home today?" but of course he wouldn't be. Darcy's never at home unless you don't want him to be. <.<
And the LBD Darcy is obvs the real one. But I like Matthew a lot, too. And Colin. I just love them all, okay. Can we share?

  9. PEMBERLEY. I love the 2005 Pride & Prejudice, so I'm just... just... just a lil' jealous. ;D

And can I just say one thing? I am so, so, so, so, so incredibly envious that you live in Ireland! That's one of the Top Places I Most Want to Go. ^.^

    Thanks for sharing!

  10. COLIN FIRTH!

But I should probably watch the 2005 P&P again. I watched it years ago and can't remember it very well. That is so cool that the house is a place you can visit! The pictures of it are lovely.
