Letters

I have two letters.
One is to an old friend.
One is to a complete stranger.

Dear Twenty-Fourteen,

How is it that you're already gone?

You taught me a lot, you know. The biggest thing, I'd say, is that you taught me about trusting in God's sovereignty. I learned that I don't have to be anxious, because God's in control. Always.

You've brought some amazing blessings, too, Twenty-Fourteen. It's been a fun year. (And not just because there were new seasons of Sherlock and Doctor Who). In June, my family and I spent an unforgettable week in England. In July, Romany visited us from Canada for the whole month, and Brendan got engaged to Rachael. In November, Mom, Heather, and I visited Rome. In December, I turned 18 and also got accepted into college.

There's been good books read, web-series marathoned, and memories made. I've blogged more this year than ever before, and I realized how much I really love this hobby of mine - especially because of all the sweet blogging buddies that I've gotten to know.

Of course, there's been hard things, too. This year, my grandpa passed away, and later my grandma got sick. Not all days have been good ones.

I feel like I've grown up a bit this year, Twenty-Fourteen. Thanks.

  Love,
  Me

Dear Twenty-Fifteen:

Please don't be as scary as you sound.

It sounds like you'll be bringing a lot of changes. I'll be graduating High School, going to the USA for the summer with my family for our furlough, but then (and here comes the scary part) I'll be staying in America to attend college. In California. By myself. COLLEGE.

Don't get me wrong, I really want to go to college. It's a great Christian college that I already love. I'm excited to go to classes, make new friends, and enjoy being in an exciting place. Sometimes I feel really happy about going to college.

But sometimes I really don't. Sometimes I feel way too young to leave my home. Sometimes I start thinking about how I'll miss out on so many of the little things that happen in my house and at my church. I don't want to miss my family's birthdays and I don't want to leave my own room and I don't want to leave behind everyone who cares about me and go somewhere where hardly anyone even knows who I am. College sounds hard.

*deep breath* Gosh, I just wrote that I had learned about trusting God. Obviously I'm still learning.

Twenty-Fifteen, I'm trying to think of you as the beginning of everything and not the end.

Cordially,
Hannah Mary W.

  8. Congratulations for being accepted to college! That is a very important phase, where you truly get to set the terms of your life's course, being where a lot of your employment and your networks would be hinged. That's why you should make sure that you are truly in the right place there, because that's what will either make or break your life. Thanks for sharing that! I wish you all the best!
