Airtravel

So many sights to see
So wake up like an early birdie
And we'll get a head start on the day
Oh, stained glass sky ways
And crowded six lane highways
If I look back when I begin to leave
Will they remember me?

I've grown up flying back and forth over the Atlantic ocean.

My favorite part is the take off. I love how one minute we're on the ground, and the next we're above everything. I like when we're low enough that we can still see the tiny cars on the highways and count the bright blue swimming pools in backyards.

It sort of stinks to wake up early, but I still think flying during sunrise is the coolest. The other morning, when we flew from Omaha to Little Rock, the clouds looked exactly like mashed potatoes.

Sometimes I think about random things in the plane. For instance, I sometimes think about how if I had been born hundreds of years ago, the thought of flying in a big metal machine would have been completely crazy. It still is pretty crazy, when you stop and think about it.

You never really get used to flying.

  1. Flying on a plane is pretty neat! Some people just can't appreciate they are sitting in a chair flying is the sky, which can sound positive or negative either way. My family tends to take morning take offs, because where we often visit, it's dark (or sometimes a day and a half day in advance)! You're right; flying isn't something that we could ever get used to, which is the beauty of it all.

    xoxo Morning

  5. I love flying on planes! My favourite one was when we flew out of Japan at 11pm then flew the 7 hours to Cairns (North of Australia) and flew though the sunrise.. it's so magical.. =D then we had to wait in stop over for 4 hours which was not fun and flew the 2 hours home.. I love it!
Now we're off to NZ soon so eeeeeeeeep! Although it's only a 3 hour flight away..
    Beautiful post!

  8. I get all tingle-y down the spine when the plane takes off. Looking out of the window at night and seeing city lights is also pretty cool!

  11. Beautiful pictures and beautiful thoughts! Flying is so amazing though, isn't it? When you mentioned that the clouds looked just like mashed potatoes, it reminded me of how I used to think that the clouds below us were snow and that the cars and houses were toys! I remember that I really wanted to go play with them... XD

  13. I, as you might remember, flew for the first time this summer, and I loved it! The miles that ran underneath me in what looks like slow motion, the separate space in time, the promise of an adventure at the next stop. And I totally agree with you about thinking on what people from hundreds of years ago would think about our new inventions. That way of thinking can entertain me for a while actually... But I read Return of the King on my way to New York. Another good way to pass the time I think!
