artemis fowl by eoin colfer // book review

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

"There is no doubt that Artemis is a child prodigy. But why does someone of such brilliance dedicate himself to criminal activities? This is a question that can be answered by only one person. And he delights in not talking."

Plot: Twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl is a genius from Ireland who has dedicated his brilliant mind to criminal activities. When he discovers that there is a fairy civilization below ground, he sees it as a golden opportunity. Now there is a whole new species to exploit with his ingenious schemes. But Artemis doesn't know as much as he thinks about the fairy people - and one false move may be the trigger of a cross-species war.

My Thoughts: Artemis Fowl is completely fun. It's interestingly written, the story is so unique and clever, and it's laugh-out-loud hilarious at times. I enjoyed every minute of it.

The characters in this book are simply amazing. There's so much to say about each one.  But I'll just focus on my favorite - Artemis himself. He's a fascinating character because he's a complete puzzle. I hardly know what to make of him - is he an evil villain, or is he a hero? He just got more mysterious as the book went on. All I know is that he's awesome and a blast to read about.

Oh, and having it set in Ireland made it all the better :)

I definitely recommend this book, and I'm looking forward to reading more books in the series!

“If I win, I'm a prodigy. If I lose, then I'm crazy. That's the way history is written.”

  1. I really enjoyed Artemis Fowl as well. :) I don't know if you've read any of the later books, but the line between villain and hero gets clearer as you go along - and for the most part Artemis becomes quite likeable. :)

(any thoughts on Mulch? I find him gross but hilarious.)
