books are amazing

|not my photo|

I wish I could just jump into the above picture and pick up one of those books and read for hours. Fiction or nonfiction, mysteries or biographies, I don't really mind.

There's just something terribly exciting about reading the first words of a book. You never know what's going to happen or where the story will lead. Books can take you all over the world. They can take you back in time or into the future. When reading a book you can experience for yourself what it's like to be fighting battles in the War for Independence, seeking lost treasure by traveling into the past, floating down the Mississippi on a raft, or stepping into a wardrobe and finding a mysterious world on the other side.

Books are amazing.

Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.

  1. That is so true, Hannah. You can never be bored if you like books. It's way harder to be lonely and you don't need batteries or electricity. I even got a waterproof Bible for Christmas from my niece. You can read while in the pool or lake or ocean or tub, totally immerse the whole thing and it dries off perfectly. For real! Drop it in the mud, wash it off and you're back to reading. I take old paperbacks usually with me if I'm doing something like at the ocean because they're not water proof but dispensable in case of accident. Books are like a mini vaca.

  3. I see that #4 on your list here is keeping a record of your books this year. A very admirable goal! Do you have an account on GoodReads.com? It's a great place to mark books down that you've read, write a little review of them and give a rating.. and you can add friends too!

  4. Books are amazing. I adored 'Chains' and am desperate to find a copy of 'Forge' at the library. Huck Finn was kind of a let down after how much I enjoyed Tom Sawyer, but The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe is good.
